We'll assume that you're on our site because you're into everything Halloween and as such, you'll know why Haddonfield is synonymous in the Halloween season.
If you somehow don't know!, where have you been???
Let's give you a brief introduction...
The fictional small town of Haddonfield, was where, in 1963, 6yr old, Michael Myers murdered his older sister, Judith Myers, in her bedroom at the family home on Halloween.
Haddonfield, Illinois is in fictional Warren County.
It has an elementary school and a high school, 2 hospitals and a university and approximately 30,000 residents.
Michael Myers is the main character in the Halloween franchise.
On October 31st 1963, a 6yr old Michael dressed as a clown for Halloween and watched his sister & her boyfriend kissing before going upstairs to have sex. He took a knife out of the kitchen drawer and waited for Judith's boyfriend to leave, then went upstairs and repeatedly stabbed her to death. After watching her die, he left the house only to be discovered by his astonished parents, who had just returned home. He was committed to Smith's Grove Warren County Sanitarium under the watch of Doctor Sam Loomis.
The first film, Halloween (1978) starts a timeline where 15yrs later, Michael escapes the sanitarium and returns to Haddonfield to continue killing residents and targeting Laurie Strode, his younger sister, who was adopted and her name changed after their parents died in a car crash in 1965.
In the Halloween (2018) film, we go back to the period after the first film and after nearly 40 years of internment in the sanitarium, Michael broke out of asylum transportation and returned to Haddonfield to kill and again seems to focus his attempts on Laurie Strode and her family.
Throughout the franchises Michael wears a mask, which adds to his mystery but it is also suggested that the mask somehow gives him more strength and the anger, hatred and evil within society with "feeds" him..
Michael wears a boiler suit, usually stolen from a victim and tends to kills with kitchen knives.
He has been shot, set on fire and stabbed multiple times and is totally immune to physical pain, never speaks and is almost never seen without his mask.
In summary, Michael is certainly no hero and kills at random but in the films he doesn't kill children or those potentially perceived "innocent" in his eyes......so we could potentially think of him as killing those who have sinned in some way?
The Halloween film franchise spawned a huge interest in Halloween based movies and tv series. Whilst there are 13 films in the franchise, there are a number that don't have Michael Myers in and some that are less than up to the standard of a good slasher film, in our opinion.
If you are looking for the ideal sequence of films we recommend that you start with Halloween (1978) which is the original film and where you have to start, yes it's dated but this is where it all has to begin.
Then go straight to Halloween (2018), which starts with Michael escaping from the asylum and returning to Haddonfield. Then we go straight to Halloween Kills which is a part 2 of the same night in Halloween (2018). In our opinion you can finish there!
In 2022 the final film in the franchise "Halloween Ends" was released. Unfortunately, Halloween Ends could have been so much better and could've left a legacy from Michael Myers but instead, it was too "modern" and missed the mark in our opinion.
There was some interesting kills but in the end, a film that could have spawned a whole new timeline going forward instead just ended the story and the Michael Myers timeline.
The Halloween film franchise is considered one of the most influential in the horror genre, leaving a significant legacy in the world of cinema. Here are some key aspects of its legacy:
1. Impact on Slasher Genre: The original "Halloween", released in 1978 and directed by John Carpenter, is often credited with popularising the slasher genre and set the template for many slasher films that followed, including the use of a masked killer, suspenseful music and the "final girl" trope.
2. Iconic Villain: The character of Michael Myers, also known as "The Shape," has become one of the most iconic villains in horror movie history. His mask, a modified Captain Kirk mask, is instantly recognisable.
3. Longevity: The "Halloween" franchise has endured for decades, with numerous sequels, reboots and remakes. Despite some ups and downs in the quality of the films, the franchise has maintained a dedicated fan base.
4. Cultural Impact: "Halloween" has become synonymous with the horror genre and the holiday itself is often associated with the film franchise. The character of Michael Myers is a staple of pop culture, inspiring Halloween costumes, merchandise and references in media.
5. Influence on Film-making: The success of the "Halloween" franchise has inspired countless filmmakers to create their own horror films. Its success demonstrated the commercial viability of low-budget horror movies and paved the way for other successful franchises.
